With the ending of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro in June 2006 and the independence of Montenegro and Serbia, there are now 194 independent sovereign states in the world, plus about 60 dependent areas, and five disputed territories. This is a list of all countries and areas in the world in alphabetical order, with the official names and alternative names. English and French country names as well as local names of the countries.
