About Anchorage |
The satellite view shows the Municipality of Anchorage, a seaport and the largest city in Alaska, the largest state by area in the USA. Anchorage is located in South Central Alaska, on an inlet of the Pacific Ocean north of Kenai Peninsula. In 1912, Alaska became a United States territory. Anchorage started as a tent city in the beginning of the 20th century. It was the administrative center of Alaska's railroad construction. In November 1920 Anchorage was incorporated. Today the city has a population of about 300,000 people (in 2016). Some of Anchorage's attractions are: the Alaska Native Heritage Center, where you might get some experience of the culture of Alaska's eleven major Native groups. The Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum, home to over 20 historic aircraft and a collection of Alaska Bush Pilot artifacts. The Anchorage Museum, the largest museum in the state is dedicated to the art, history and cultures of Alaska. Go to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center when you want to see some of Alaska's native animals very close.
