About Mauritius

A lonesome island with beaches, lagoons, reefs, and exotic colored fishes in crystal blue water. A holiday paradise far, far away from any civilization.

Mauritius is an African island nation in the Indian Ocean, about 850 km (550 mi) east of Madagascar, and 145 km (90 mi) northeast of the French "département" of Réunion (island).

The two main islands are Mauritius and Rodrigues. The country has a population of 1.2 million people (tourists and expats not counted). Official languages are English and French, Creole and Indian languages are in use. Mauritius' capital city is Port Louis.

Mauritius is geographically close to Madagascar, Réunion, and the Seychelles.
