About Kunming

Kunming is the core of Yunnan's economic activity, the city is a communication and transportation hub and the seat of the provincial government.
It is also a cultural center of the province, where ethnic minorities of the region try to preserve their traditions, well known is the Shangrila-Dynamic Yunnan show by Yang Liping, the director, choreographer and star of the performance art show.

Kunming has a population of about 3.6 million people in its metropolitan area.

On 1 March 2014 the city came into the focus of attention of the global community, when an organized group of black dressed men and women assaulted civilian people of inside Kunming's Central train station, that left 29 people dead and about 130 injured. No one, nor any group, claimed responsibility for the attacks.
