About Guayaquil![]() ![]() The city is located on the western bank of the Guayas River, close to the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Guayaquil in south-western Ecuador near the Equator. Guayaquil is Ecuador's principal port and the country's center of fishing and manufacturing industries. ![]() Quito and Guayaquil are the two major cities of Ecuador. Both cities have economically developed areas scattered with numerous slums and shanty towns.
