About Naypyidaw![]() The Hluttaw Complex houses the National Assembly of Myanmar. Image: Myat Moe Maung ![]() Naypyidaw was founded in 2005 in a previously undeveloped area of relative isolation, located west of Pyinmana town and the Shan Hills mountain range in south central Myanmar. The location of the nation's new administration is more central within the country, it lies halfway between Myanmar's two main cities: Mandalay, the northern capital, and Yangon, largest city, former capital and the economic hub of the country. The planned city includes ministry buildings, military headquarters, the Central Bank of Myanmar, four hospitals, some hotels, the National Library, several pagodas, the National Herbal Park, at least four golf courses, a Keystone Cafe, a water fountain garden, and a zoo. The map shows Naypyidaw with main roads and streets, zoom out to find the location of Naypyidaw Airport (IATA code: NYT), located 16 km (10 miles) southeast of Naypyidaw.
