"Alice" is located almost in the center of the country at the normally dry Todd River on the northern side of the MacDonnell Ranges in the Central Australian desert, which is also known as the "Red Center". Arrernte people maintain a strong presence in Alice Springs and are playing a major role in the Aboriginal organisations in the town.
Modern Alice Springs has both Aboriginal and international influences, it is an important tourist hub and the commercial and cultural center for the surrounding area in the sparsely populated Northern Territory.

The Art Center is the organizer of the yearly held "Desert Mob" a selling exhibition showcasing current trends from Aboriginal art centres in Central Australia.
