King Wu of Zhou was the first king of the Zhou dynasty in ancient China. King Wu reigned for only three years. His son Cheng became his successor and the new king of Zhou. In the beginning of King Cheng's reign, the real political power was in the hands of his uncle, the Duke of Zhou. But in Chinese history the Duke was renowned for acting as a capable and loyal regent for his young nephew.
