Lion Dance with Funny Man/ Uncle, the later God of Smiles arriving at illuminated Wat Mangon Kamalawat Temple, Lion Dances take place during the first few days of the Chinese New Year and are supposed to scare evil spirits away. Long ago there was a Chinese legend that said that a terrible monster or giant by the name of ‘Nian’ lived in the mountains and would come down at the end of the year and terrorize people and animals or even kill them all.
