Food offering and incense. The offering of food serves to bring ancestors and other beings in the other world closer to oneself. It serves as a bonding tool to bring both worlds together. Ancestor worship is a religious practice based on the belief that deceased family members have a continued existence, take an interest in the affairs of the world, and possess the ability to influence the fortune of the living. During Chinese New Year, food offerings are made to the Jade Emperor and the Kitchen God. The colour red is supposed to ward off evil spirits; market scene, China Town, Bangkok
