About Guayaquil

The city is located on the western bank of the Guayas River, close to the Pacific Ocean at the Gulf of Guayaquil in south-western Ecuador near the Equator.
Guayaquil is Ecuador's principal port and the country's center of fishing and manufacturing industries.

Quito and Guayaquil are the two major cities of Ecuador. Both cities have economically developed areas scattered with numerous slums and shanty towns.

The city has a population of about 2.6 million inhabitants, more than 3 million live in its metropolitan area. Official language is Spanish.
