___ Political Map of Namibia | ||
Map is showing Namibia, a country in southwestern Africa, with a coastline on the Atlantic Ocean. Only on 21 March 1990 Namibia gained independence from South Africa. The country's name is derived from the Namib Desert, probably the oldest desert in the world. Namibia's landscape consists generally of five geographical areas, the Central Plateau which runs from north to south, bordered by the Skeleton Coast to the northwest, the Namib Desert with its coastal plains, and the Kalahari Desert to the east wich extends to South Africa and Botswana. The Bushveld, a sub-tropical woodland area in north eastern Namibia along the Angolan border, and the Great Escarpment, a mountainous escarpment which lies predominantly within Lesotho and South Africa, but it extends into Angola, Namibia, Swaziland, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. The Orange River to the south marks the southern border of Namibia to South Africa. The map shows Namibia with surrounding countries, its international borders, the official national capital Dodoma, province capitals, cities, villages, roads, railroads and major airports. Area: Namibia 824 292 sq. km. (318 260 sq. mi.); this is more than three times the size of New Zealand. Border Countries: Angola, Botswana, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe |
