It was the first time that the tournament has been hosted by an African nation. The football (soccer) world cup, has been the paramount of a qualification process that began in August 2007 and involved 204 of the 208 FIFA national teams. Of these, 32 teams had qualified for the final tournament. For the FIFA World Cup five new stadiums have been built in South Africa, in Cape Town, Durban, Polokwane, Port Elizabeth and Nelspruit. Other South African cities which had hosted World Cup games are: Bloemfontein Johannesburg Pretoria and Rustenburg.Countries with international borders to South Africa are Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe.
