Windhoek population numbers range between 230,000 to 300,000 inhabitants (someone should count them sometimes). Official language is English, recognised regional languages are: Afrikaans and German and various native languages like Bantu and Khoisan. The city has also two traditional names, Otjomuise, a word from Herero language means: "place of steam" and “/Ai-//Gams” (a Nama word for Fire Water), both names refering to Windhoek's hot springs.
